Conservation areas are "areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance" (Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990). They will vary in character and size and may contain Listed Buildings.  If you live in a conservation area in Bedfordshire you may be subject to a number of controls, including conservation area consent, regarding your property and the surrounding environment.  To find out more contact your local council.
