Registry Office   Where can I find local burial and cemetery records?
  • Bedford Crematoria and Cemetery. Holds all the original cemetery records for Foster Hill Road Cemetery and Norse Road Cemetery. If you have the name of the person and the date of the death you can check the records to find the original grave site.
  • Bedfordshire Libraries have some local burial and cemetery records as well as the National Burial Index on CD-ROM.

  • Bedfordshire and Luton Archives Services have:
    1. the burial registers (either originals and/or on film) for virtually all Bedfordshire parish churches up to the 1980s. There are very few indexes.
    2. Monumental (gravestone) inscriptions for roughly 75% of parish graveyards, with indexes. No monumental inscriptions have been compiled for the municipal cemeteries.
    3. Cemetery records for most of the major cemeteries in Bedfordshire, including Bedford, 1855-1971 (on film), Leighton Buzzard, and Luton Rothesay Road (CD-Rom). Most have indexes.
