Old books
  • The International Genealogical Index British Isles (IGI) includes details, mainly of baptisms and marriages, taken from parish registers from the British Isles, US and many other countries. You can search the IGI on the Familysearch site: click the 'Search' tab and then click 'International Genealogical Index' in the menu
  • The web site Ancestry.co.uk includes transcriptions of many local and national parish records. You can search these records free at any Bedfordshire library on a library version of the 'Ancestry' site. If you are using a computer in a Bedford Borough or Central Bedfordshire library now, click the Ancestry link on the Internet Explorer homepage.  See Ancestry and Ancestry Library Edition
  • There is an ongoing project called FreeREG which aims to provide free Internet searches of records transcribed from parish and non-conformist church registers in the UK. So far only a few million records registers have been transcribed
  • UK BMD links you to many national and county sites that include transcriptions of UK parish registers
  • Family History Online includes transcriptions from parish registers compiled by local family history societies
