19th Century Land Records
A collection of landowner records for England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland,
created in the 19th century and published in 1973, has now been published in
fully searchable form online by Family
Relatives, which is available by annual subscription.
The online collection gives names and addresses of over 320,000 landowners
who owned at least one acre (except that London was excluded from the
information collected, as also was waste land if it yielded no profit). The
records represent 1% of the entire population of the United Kingdom. The number
of owners with less than one acre was nearly 850,000.
Index of Maiden Names
An aid to tracing female relatives is the 'Index of maiden names' at the
Lost Cousins web site. The index
includes 150,000 maiden names of women who married before the 1881 Census. Names
in the index have been entered by Lost Cousins members.
