Filling in an application form

Making the right impression on an application form is important.

Here are some basic tips for filling in application forms:

• Follow any instructions about how to fill in the application form

• Photocopy the form and practise filling it in so that you minimise mistakes

• Write clearly, check your grammar and punctuation and avoid spelling mistakes

• Keep the form clean and tidy

• Make sure that you tailor each application form to the job for which you are applying

• Look carefully at requirements of the job and make sure that you link your skills and experience to that job

• Ask your referees in advance if they will provide references for you so they are not surprised later!
