How can I find more technical
 books and journal articles on mental health?

• The NHS National Library for Health has a section called the Mental health specialist library. This includes information primarily for mental health and primary care professionals but it can be useful for the general public too
• You can search indexes and see abstracts of articles from  the specialist journals of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The full text of each article is free online only after one year but you can request PDF files of recent articles from the Royal College of Psychiatrists Library
• You can also search for mental health topics in many general medical journals. See Health and care > Medical journals on the Gateway to the Internet
• In the Virtual Library's magazines and journals online collection you can find  full-text articles, abstracts or references from 'The lancet', 'British medical journal', 'British journal of psychology' and 'Annual review of psychology'
• When you see a reference to a specific journal article that you want, you may find that the full text of the article is available free online or you can request a printed copy of the article from your local library (see request charges)
