You may wish to browse printed registers but please note that printed
registers list people by address so you cannot simply look someone up on an
alphabetical list of names. The registers are divided into wards, then each ward
shows the electors street by street. For more flexible searching, see also
Electoral registers online and on CD-ROM
Many Bedfordshire libraries hold the 'edited version' of the
electoral registers for their own areas
Bedford Central has current and past edited
registers for Bedford Borough (and earlier registers, which were
not
edited, for Bedford Borough and also for Mid Bedfordshire); Dunstable and
Leighton Buzzard libraries have the edited registers for the former South
Bedfordshire (and pre-2002 registers, which were not edited, for that area)
The ‘full version’ of each current register is available for inspection at
only a few places. In Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, the ‘full
version’ is available only at the respective council offices. It is advisable to
telephone a council office before you visit. See the
Central Bedfordshire and
Bedford Borough web sites for contact
details
You may want to see the printed registers for other parts of the country.
You could contact libraries in
other areas to check whether they hold the earlier registers. Contact
details are on the
UK public libraries on the
web site
The British Library in London holds past registers for the whole
country (but the current registers are never available there). For further details see the
Electoral registers at the British
Library entry on the Gateway to the Internet.
