Do you wish to pay a commercial organisation
or a private investigator?

A-Z how to find information > Finding people

  • You may find commercial people-finding organisations and private investigators through following links from web sites on the Gateway. Some links to these are given on the British Library social policy information service (SPIS) and BAAF web sites
  • You can also find private investigators in yellow pages directories. Online yellow pages are at Yell.com and there are other similar web sites on the Gateway to the Internet at Telephone, fax, email and post > Telephone directories. Bedford Central, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard libraries hold a full printed set of yellow pages for the UK. Other Bedfordshire libraries hold the local yellow pages for their area.
  • Please note that direct or indirect links from the Gateway to fee-charging commercial organisations or investigators do not indicate that we recommend or endorse them
  • Take great care if you commit to paying any money to a commercial people-finding organisation or private investigator. The costs might mount up greatly, especially if you are being charged according to time spent rather than a fixed quote. You could also note whether the sources they might be using might be ones you could search yourself at a lesser cost or free
