- Available at all libraries, the annual
Whitaker's almanack, has a country by country
section giving
concise essential information, including the names of each country's
currency and national anthem; government personnel and addresses of embassies
or high commissions; brief overviews of history and politics, defence, economy
and, in many cases, communications, culture and education; key statistics
- At larger libraries you can find more detailed key statistics for
individual countries in books such as the
Britannica book of the year and the
Statesman's yearbook. For European Union statistics, see Eurostat's 'Year
book', available at Bedford Central, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard libraries
- For detailed political and economic country information see 'Keesings
record of world events'. It gives you a monthly digest of news, country by
country. 'Keesing's' has annual name and subject indexes enable you to
pinpoint information
- You can look back over the years too -
Bedford Central Library has 'Keesings' from 1931 to the present
and Dunstable Library has it from 1943 to the present
- The larger libraries also have the printed set of the
Encyclopaedia Britannica, which has long articles on countries and key
maps
