Sole traders

• A sole trader is a business owned by one person and not registered at Companies House. Other terms for 'sole trader' are 'proprietor' or 'self-employed'

Partnerships

• A partnership is a business owned by more than one person (partner)
• A partnership is not registered at Companies House unless it chooses to become a limited liability partnership (LLP)
