Wray is wounded in battle and looses the forefinger of his right hand and has to remain in hospital in Salamanca for three months, after which he leaves to join his regiment laying siege to the castle of Burgos. After the surrender of the castle the regiment proceeds on a march to Vittoria, the headquarters of the French, where Joseph Bonapart was commander in chief. The men were not allowed to drink any water as they were informed it had been poisoned in several places. On 21st June 1813 they commenced firing at the French.
