the Bell Inn

In the 1950's the Bedfordshire Times published a different view of this building, the Bell Inn on the corner of Silver Street and Harpur Street, captioned "The Bell Inn had character". Demolished at the turn of the century, it was replaced by Associated Buildings, now mostly occupied by Messrs Beales (formally Braggins). A rare example in Bedford of the Art Nouveau style, we now see that Beales has a character of its own. A Newland and Nah House4, the Bell sold their "entire" type of stout. The pub name and licence were transferred to new premises in Queens Park. (Bedfordshire Times 19th January 1984)
