blue starHow do I start Word and open a document?

  1. Click on the Start button, bottom left hand side of the screen. OR double click on the Word icon on the desktop
  2. Move the mouse arrow over Programs
  3. Move your mouse over Microsoft Word
  4. Click the mouse
  5. Microsoft Word will load, with an open document in the centre of the window.
 If Word is already open, you can open a new document by:
  1. Click on the File menu
  2. Click on New or click on the new page icon on the toolbarTo the top of the page

 


blue starWhat is the toolbar?

The toolbar is the row of icons/pictures below the menu bar.

New page image New page - opens a new document Copy image Copy - to create a copy of the text/image you have selected
Open document image Open - to open a specific document Paste image Paste - to place the copied or cut text/ image somewhere else
Save image Save - to save a document Format painter image Format Painter - to copy the format of text elsewhere
Print image Print - to print the document you have open Undo image Undo - to undo your last actions
Print preview image Print Preview - to see how a document will print Redo image Redo - to redo when you change your mind again!
Spell checker image Spell Checker - to check your spelling and grammar Table image Table - to insert a table into a document
Cut image Cut - to remove text/ image you have selected WordArt image WordArt - to create fancy textTo the top of the page
 

blue starHow do I change the presentation of my document?

There is a lot you can do with a document, such as changing the fonts (type), moving the text around on the page (justifying).  You can use: Toolbar icons:

Bold image Bold Bullet points image Bullet points
Italic image Italic Left justify image Justify - Left
Underline image Underline Center justify image Justify - Center
Text colour image Text Colour Right justify image Justify - Right
Numbers image Numbers Justify image Justify

blue starHow do I use WordArt?

Click on the WordArt icon, or Click the Insert menu, click Picture and then WordArt

WordArt Dialogue BoxThis box will appear
Select the one you like by clicking on it.
A box will appear so you can type in your words, and select the font you want and size, then click OK
Your words will appear in the document, and you can then resize, move them around, etc by clicking on the image.To the top of the page
