How
do I start Word and open a document?
- Click on the Start button, bottom left hand side of the screen. OR double click on the Word icon on the desktop
- Move the mouse arrow over Programs
- Move your mouse over Microsoft Word
- Click the mouse
- Microsoft Word will load, with an open document in the centre of the window.
What
is the toolbar?
The toolbar is the row of icons/pictures below the menu bar.
How
do I change the presentation of my document?
There is a lot you can do with a document, such as changing the fonts (type), moving the text around on the page (justifying). You can use: Toolbar icons:

Format Menu:
- Click on the Format menu,
- Click Font
- A box will appear called Font, you can then change the font name, size, colour, make it bold, create simple effects
- When you have finished click OK
- Add bullet points or numbers to a list, click Bullets and Numbering, you can select what sort you want, and even choose how far they are from the margin
- When you have finished click OK
- If you don't like some of the changes you have made then you can start
again.

- Remember to save when you are working on your document
How
do I check my spelling and grammar?
- Click on the Spell Checker icon, or click on the Tools menu, and then the Spelling and Grammar option
- A box will appear called Spelling and Grammar
- It will show any mistakes it finds and suggest alternatives
- You can choose to accept the suggestion by clicking Change, or ignore them by clicking Ignore
- When it is finished the box will close and a
little message will appear
telling you The spelling and grammar check is complete
How
do I use WordArt?
Click on the WordArt icon, or Click the Insert menu, click Picture and then WordArt
This
box will appear
Select the one you like by clicking on it.
A box will appear so you can type in your words, and select the font you want
and size, then click OK
Your words will appear in the document, and you can then resize, move them
around, etc by clicking on the image.![]()
How
do I save my work and close Word

When you have finished working on a document, click on the Save icon, or click File, Save or Save As.

If this is the first time you have saved the document, a Save As box will appear, select where you would like to save the information, and what you would like to call it

If you are saving a document that has already been saved you will be able to simply click save and replace the previous version.

When you have saved everything, click on the cross in the top right hand corner of the screen to close the document and the Word window. Or click File, then Exit.
