If you and a group of friends would like to start enjoying books together, starting a reading group is a fun and social way of doing that. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. Go into your local library and talk to a member of staff about joining as a Reading Group member. Click here for details of your local library.
  2. Fill out the Reading Group Registration form and give to a member of staff. You can get the forms in the library, or you can download one here:
Click here for the pdf version of the Reading Group Agreement Reading Group Registration Form
  3. The member of staff will register you as a Reading Group, and whoever filled in the form will be the contact between your new group and the library.
  4. There is a request form attached to the registration form so you can put down your first few books you would like for the group. There is a separate request form for future book requests. You can get these forms from the library, or you can download one here:
Click here for the pdf version of the Reading Group Request Form Reading Group Request Form
  5. Return the Reading Group Request Form to the library when you have decided what books your group wants to read in the future, and the staff there will order those books for you, free of charge. If you need some ideas on what to read, have a look at Have You Read...?
  6. Sit back and wait to be informed of the arrival of your books
  7. Collect the books and keep them for six weeks, and don't worry about paying any fines, as reading groups aren't charged for fines
  8. Have a lively and fun discussion with the other members of your reading group!

Pile of BooksThose few points should be all you need to get your Reading Group started. If you have any other queries, or if you can't see the information you were looking for, go to Reading Group FAQs.
