It's time to finally put the May rains behind us and start looking forward to summer. Get yourself in the mood with these bright and sunny summertime movies.
A
Good Year
Fall in love with Provence during the summertime with this beautiful feel-good movie. Russell Crowe gives a sensitive performance as Max, a cut-throat London banker whose only motivation is money. This all changes when he finds that he has inherited an estate in Provence and his visit to the property brings back wonderful memories of magical summers.

La
Dolce Vita
It may not be quite hot enough yet to frolic in a fountain, but that doesn't mean that you can't indulge yourself with this cinema classic. Join the dissolute Marcello Rubini (Marcello Mastroianni) as he wanders around Rome living a shallow existence full of sex, alcohol and parties. Decadent and immoral, but is it really a sweet life?

At
the Height of Summer
Let's move away from Europe now and go further a field, to Vietnam. This film follows the story of three sisters in present day Hanoi who are all facing changes in their lives. Whilst preparing an elaborate meal for the anniversary of their mother's death, the sisters discuss their lives and problems. The director, Tran Anh Hung, is famous for his portrayal of food and its preparation, and this film is no exception, so prepare to be ravenous by the end.

Jean
de Florette and Manon des Sources
Back to Provence in France again now with these classic films from Claude Berri. These two films follow the lives and tragedies of two French families farming the land in a drought ridden valley in Provence. Why not rent this DVD from the Library and find out what was the inspiration for all those lager adverts!

Last
of the Summer Wine
We've been around the world with this month's collection of movies, but let's end up in Britain, in Yorkshire to be precise. Sure, it may not have the spills and thrills of 24, or the mystery of Lost, but this series does allow you to drift away pleasantly into bygone days. Still funny after all these years this DVD contains the first two series of this long-running classic.
