You could be dreaming of an extended road trip motor biking across the continents, or planning a wonderful summer holiday for the family. No matter what type of journeying experience you're planning, we've got the DVDs to help you. Check out some of our suggestions below.
The
Motorcycle Diaries
I suppose it was inevitable that we kicked off the list with this movie, but it is such a little gem that it would be wrong not to include it. Join the young Che Guevara (Gael Garcia Bernal) and Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna) as they attempt to circumnavigate South America on a decrepit and untrustworthy motorcycle. While there is an important tale to tell here, that of Che's development into the political man he will later become, the director Walter Salles never lets it dominate too much over the fantastic South American scenery.

Innocent

Hannah Hauxwell is a singular woman. Since she was 35 years old she had struggled to run, single-handedly, her family farm in Yorkshire on a meagre budget. After coming to the world's attention in the documentary "A Winter's Tale" Hannah become something of a national celebrity. In this DVD version of a documentary series Hannah travels to Europe, following in the footsteps of Victorian lady travellers. A heart-warming experience.

Long
Way Round
I must admit I'm not incredibly envious of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. While its true they do appear to have a wonderful time on their trip to New York the "long way round", there's an awful lot of things that seem to go wrong. Technical problems with the bikes, crashes, dodgy dealings with shifty strangers, border problems and much more happens on their 20,000 mile trip from the UK through Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia and Canada to name but a few of the countries they traverse. Great for you armchair travellers out there.

Pole
to Pole and Full Circle
Palin, on the evidence of his travel documentary series, would be an excellent travelling companion. He is willing to try almost anything in his quest to go from the North pole to the South pole, and in his trip around the world's largest ocean, the Pacific. Full of humour and enthusiasm, Palin is a pleasure to watch, and gives a fascinating incite into the culture of the many countries that he visits.
