With Britain finally getting some it's share of the hot summer sun, why not check out some of these blazing hot movies from great directors and actors?
Inland
Empire
In no way can you say that David Lynch is a new director, with a career dating from his controversial debut Eraserhead in 1977 and consisting of over 25 movies and shorts, but he is certainly hot property in the movie-making world. This movie is archetypal Lynch with a complex narrative structure and abstract ideas built around a deceptively simple plot featuring an actress (Lynch favourite Laura Dern) who finds her latest role a little bit too close to home. Featuring a stand-out performance from Dern this film exudes Lynchian magic.

The
Science of Sleep
This movie is from the acclaimed French director Michel Gondry, who also directed the brilliant Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The Science of Sleep uses some of the same fantastical visual touches which were employed in Eternal Sunshine. It tells a surreal tale of an aspiring visual artist Stephane (Gael Garcia Bernal) who escapes from the hum-drum reality of his job into the world of dreams: but what is dream, and what is reality? Dreamy and enchanting.

When
the Levees Broke
Spike Lee tells the horrifying story of hurricane Katrina's devastating impact on New Orleans in 2005. This film is harrowing viewing, but tells a story that needs to be told. Lee allows the residents and people of New Orleans to speak for themselves, and simply follows the events. A wonderful expose of the lies and ignorance which allowed this disaster to unfold. Essential viewing.

Jump
London
Free running is an art which originated in France, basically its practitioners use the power and abilities of the human body to get from point A to point B as efficiently and directly as possible, whether that means vaulting over walls or running across the tops of building. It has been popular in France for many years and its popularity is growing worldwide. Jump London is an exhilarating display of free running set in the heart of the city of London. Great for free running enthusiasts, but also amazing for those of us who a less adventurous, but like to watch these activities from the armchair!

Ghost
Rider
Finally to a guy who is literally blazing hot, the Ghost Rider! Nicolas Cage plays Johnny Blaze, a stunt rider who makes a deal with Mephistopheles. In return for saving his father, Johnny Blaze becomes a blazing skull-headed rider of vengeance. This is an adaptation of a Marvel character, and the film delivers an enjoyable ride with a typically quirky Cage performance. Good fun.
