Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Libraries
Public Libraries | Mobiles and Library Link | The Virtual Library | Schools Library Service
From the 1st April 2009 the library service has been separated into two separate authorities.
Public Libraries
This means that the libraries, mobiles and Library Link are now run by either Bedford Borough or Central Bedfordshire. The table below shows you which libraries are in each authority:
|
Bedford Borough Libraries |
Central Bedfordshire Libraries |
| Bedford Central | Ampthill |
| Bedford Prison | Barton |
| Bromham | Biggleswade |
| Kempston | Dunstable |
| Library Link | Flitwick |
| Putnoe | Houghton Regis |
| Wootton | Leighton Buzzard |
| Library Link | |
| Potton | |
| Sandy | |
| Shefford | |
| Stotfold | |
| Toddington |

Both services have agreed to work together, so whether you are now a member of Bedford Borough or Central Bedfordshire Libraries you can still:
- Request and borrow stock from all 17 libraries and 2 mobiles
- Return any item to any library in both authorities
- Use the computers, free of charge, in all the libraries
If you joined at a library that you no longer use so frequently, you may be asked if you would like to update your home library on the system. This will mean the staff can serve you quicker, and when requesting online your preferred library will always show at the top of the list of libraries for collection. However, if you do not want to change your home library this is absolutely fine.
Mobile Libraries and Library Link
These have also been separated into the new authorities, this means that the
routes have been changed to reflect the new boundaries.

Initially you may find information on the Virtual Library that refers to the County, District and Borough Councils. We will be working through the site updating these references and links - please bear with us as this may take some time. In the meantime for local government information please visit
Schools Library Service
