1660 - Sir Hans Sloane
Physician and collector, Hans Sloane, was born on 16th April 1660. He founded
the Chelsea Physic Garden in 1721. He also bequeathed his museum and extensive
library to the nation and the collection formed the nucleus of the British
Museum which was opened to the public in 1759.

1810 - Frédéric François Chopin
200th anniversary of the birth of the Polish composer Frédéric François Chopin
born on 1st March 2010.

1835 - Great Western Railway
175th anniversary of the Great Western Railway. The company was founded at a
public meeting in Bristol in 1833 and was incorporated by Act of Parliament in
1835. Isambard Kingdom Brunel, then aged twenty-nine, was appointed engineer.

1860 - Fish and Chips
The first fish and chip shop was opened in London by Jewish shopkeeper Joseph
Malin who married together fish fired in the Jewish way with chips.
