BEDFORD AIKIDO CLUB
- The Aikido club in Bedford started in 2008. It belongs to a UK wide organisation and is one of the few groups in the UK to practice traditional Aikido and is recognised by Hombu Dojo, the world Aikido headquarters in Japan. Aikido uses a series of throws and locks to pacify and attack and is therefore applicable to all people, no matter how fit or dexterous as a beginner. The art takes time and patience to learn and new students are requires to practice with each other and more experienced students as well as rolling on the floor! Beginners are always welcome. Age range: 18 upwards. Membership fee: £5 per class plus £27 pa. insurance. First class is free. Disabled access.

BEDFORD AND MILTON KEYNES WATERWAY TRUST
- Formed to pursue the building of a canal between the Grand Union at Milton Keynes and the River Ouse at Bedford. The Trust is working closely with British Waterways and the Project Partnership of local councils and other agencies that want to make the 'B&MK' happen. Trust volunteers run information, consultation and promotional activities, and contribute to the Waterway planning process. A speaker is available to give talks on the BMKWT. - Bedford Association of Tour Guides is a group of individuals with a sound knowledge of Bedford’s history coupled with an abiding commitment to sharing their passion for the town’s history with others. Having undergone in-depth training in a number of areas including guiding and presenting techniques, the members of the association are able to lead groups on guided tours of Bedford and the surrounding area. Each year there is summer season of themed walks, which take place on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and selected Thursday afternoons and are offered free to the public. - Bedford Barn Dancers provides instruction and dancing enjoyment to a range of folk and barn dances. Knowledge of the basics of country/ folk dancing is required. BEDFORD HOSPITALS CHARITY - PRIMROSE APPEAL
- The Charity has raised £6 million for a number of projects supporting the hospitals in North Bedfordshire and will continue to raise funds for significant capital and equipment projects. It is close to completing its latest major project which was to raise £365,000 for the Chemotherapy Preparation Appeal to create new aseptic (clean room) facilities where chemotherapy drugs are made up for use in the Macmillan Primrose Unit. In the autumn a new appeal is to be launched - the Cancer Screening Appeal - which is to help to replace and upgrade the screening equipment in Bedford Hospital's endoscopy suite. The aim is to enable the hospital to replace the existing scopes in the next year or so with the best equipment available, creating a "gold standard" facility.

- BRTA seeks to promote railway and station reopenings/ new builds and protection of 'optimum rail routes where human and financial resources allow and strategic cooperation congenial', act as a Strategic Voice for Rail Users in Bedfordshire and neighbouring counties. BRTA also takes an interest in bus issues, cycle/ pedestrians and road issues - including strategies to enable real and tangible modal shift and infrastructure away from car and fossil fuel reliance and make all charges in proportion not only to emissions, but also the ability of people to pay, whilst ensuring attractive rail options are reasonably provided and strategic gaps filled in the regions rail network.
